CLASS- 9 SCIENCE CH-1 MATTER ASSERTION AND REASONING
In each of the following questions two statements are given below – one labelled Assertion (A) and the other labelled Reason (R). Select the correct answer to these questions from the codes (i), (ii), (iii)and (iv)as given below:
(a) Both A and R are true, and R is the correct explanation of the assertion.
(b) Both A and R true and R is not the correct explanation of the assertion.
(c) A is true but R is false.
(d) A is false but R is true.
1-Assertion: Matter is a substance that possesses mass and occupies space.
Reason: Particles of matter are very small in size.
2-Assertion: A solid is a substance which has fixed shape but not a fixed volume.
Reason: Gas is a substance which has fixed shape and volume.
3- Assertion: Evaporation is the process of changing of liquid into vapor its boiling point.
Reason: The rate of evaporation decreases with increase in temperature.
4- Assertion: Evaporation causes cooling.
Reason: During evaporation the molecules with high kinetic energy move out and therefore the average kinetic energy and hence the temperature decreases.
5- Assertion: Latent heat is called hidden heat.
Reason: The process of conversion of solid into its liquid state on heating, without rise in temperature is called fusion or melting.
ANSWER: 1. (b) 2. (d) 3. (c) 4. (a) 5. (b)
